The first vehicle to move under its own power was designed by Nicholas Cugnot and built by M. Brezin in 1769. This vehicle operated by steam power and was slow. A couple of years later Cugnot designed a much faster car and was the culprit to record the first automobile accident in 1771. Interesting!
