Cars backfire for a number of reasons. One is because of a buildup of pressure, another is because it is dumping too much fuel (in carbureted cars).

The main reason you car will make a backfire is cause of the amount of unburned fuel that flows down the exhause system causing it to backfire. This happends to older vehicles.
