Bob Marley injured his toe playing soccer in 1977, and the injury was quite severe, and took longer to heal than it was expected to. Finally he was diagnosed as having a malignant melanoma on his toe, which is what caused the area to not heal. He was advised to have his toe amputated, but due to his devout religious following of the Rastafarians, he refused. Over time his cancer became more severe, spread and became incurable. He died in 1981

It was very sad. He died of a brain tumor or brain cancer. He was one of the first mass excepted reggae artist. Now Reggae is large.
