How Did Louisiana Get Its Nickname?

Answer

Over the years Louisiana has had more nicknames than most children, its longest nickname has been the pelican state, the pelican is also the state bird, in 1872 it was called the creole state, but the people in northern Louisiana didn't like that because they thought it meant African blood, when actually it means Caucasian, occasionally its called the sugar state, the child of the Mississippi, and the Bayou State, a lot of the locals also call it Sportsman's Paradise because of the abundance of hunting and fishing.
