The Great Wall of China was built originally to keep the Mongol Nomads out of their land. It was made from stones and earth in wood frames, and extends to about 8,850 kilometers. The wall was unsuccessful as it was not a continuous structure so it was very easy for the Mongols to breech it by just going around.
