The Melbourne Herald held a competition for the official federal flag of Australia in 1900. They received over 32,000, five of which were nearly identical. These shared the distinction of being chosen and their designers shared the prize money of 200 pounds. These men were: Ivor Evans, Leslie Nuttall, Annie Dorrington, and William Stevens.
