Actually, a kilogram is 1000 grams, so the better question is probably how many grams are in a kilogram. But you could turn that around and say there is .001 of a kilogram in a gram

The word kilo means 1000 and so if you can remember that then you will know that when it is used as a prefix it is 1000 times the basic measurement. In this case there are 1000 grams

In order to convert grams to kilograms, you have to divide by 1000. For example, if we have 1 gram being converted it will be 0.0001 kilograms.
