There is no one inventor for the shotgun, it was an applied concept. The idea for the shotgun stemmed from when cannons where used. The cannon operators would load small objects in the cannon and fire them at ships when there were numerous crew members on deck.

Shotguns haven't been around as long as some may believe.They were originally small hand cannons. Later they went on to become known as muskets( a larger version of the hand cannon)
