Pneumonia at the time of discovery was essential for survival. Discovery dates back to the time of Hippocrates; however Carl Freidlander and Albert Frankel discovered a deeper understanding of pneumonia in 1880. Although it wasn't until 1918 that pneumonia became the primary cause of death, their discovery of the pneumonia bacteria led to the discovery of it's treatment.
