What does Inclusion Mean?

Answer

Inclusion is a term used by schools to describe the legally-required inclusion of special education students in mainstream ('regular') classrooms. Due to actions in the court system, schools since the 1990s have been bringing the majority of special education students into standard classrooms, rather than keeping these kids in separate classrooms. This has led to mixed results. While some special education students flourish when placed with 'regular' kids, many 'regular' kids complain that they feel the curriculum has been 'dumbed down' in the inclusion process.
