A bill of lading is similar to a receipt. It is a piece of paper that a transportation company would give to a shipper just to acknowledge that they have received their items to be shipped. This way the shipper has proof that the transportation company recieved their items in case something gets lost. It generally lists a description of what is being shipped and where it is being shipped to.
