There are over 150 grades of stainless steel, separated into 5 main families. The families are austenitic steels (contains at least 16% chromium and 6% nickel) , duplex steels (23% chromium, 4% nickel and 22% chromium, 5% nickel ), precipitation hardening steels (17% chromium, 4% nickel, 4% copper and 0.3% niobium.), martensitic steels (lower chromium, about 12%), and ferritic steels (plain chromium 10.5 to 18%).
